About Coliseum and Monti areas
Monti is the name of one of the twenty-two Rioni of Rome. The name literally means mountains in Italian and comes from the fact that the Esquiline and the Viminal Hills, and parts of the Quirinal and the Caelian Hills belonged to this rione. Its logo consists of three green mountains with three tops on a silver background.
Thanks to its position, Monti is full of archaeological sites such as Coliseum and Fori imperiali.
Coliseum also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome. The Construction began under the emperor Vespasian in 72 AD, and was completed in 80 AD under his successor Titus. It was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, and dramas based on Classical mythology.
Although partially ruined because of damage caused by earthquakes and stone-robbers, the Coliseum is still an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome and is one of Rome’s most popular tourist attractions.
Fori Imperiali used to be the heart of the civil antique roman living. The Imperial Fora consists of a series of monumental fora (public squares), constructed in Rome over a period of one and a half centuries, between 46 BC and 113 AD.
